HISTOCHEMICAL STUDY OF CONTAMINANTS IN COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE DIASTASES AND AMYLASES
1 Research Associate, National Institute of Dental Research, Bethesda, Maryland.
No contaminants were detected with PAS, pyronin-Y and other staining methods in twice-crystallized alpha-amylase but most other commercially available diastases and amylases tested contained peptidase, ribonuclease, or both. Very small amounts of twice-crystallized alpha-amylase hydrolyzed glycogen in rat liver sections even at room temperature. Submitted on July 31, 1964
