AN IMPROVED HISTOCHEMICAL METHOD FOR THE DEMONSTRATION OF POTASSIUM

J. RICHARD CROUT M.D.1 and ROBERT B. JENNINGS M.D.1

1 From the Department of Pathology, Northwestern University Medical School, Chicago.

1) A technique is described for the histochemical demonstration of potassium using frozen-dried tissue and sodium cobaltinitrite precipitation.

2) Quantitative data show that the method precipitates tissue potassium completely.

3) Several observations are discussed which indicate that no potassium loss or shift occurs during the staining process.
